Her Words

Spirit of faith

Marguerite repeated continuously : « One must think that God is present everywhere », and « One must think about God during each day ».
To children, she recommended «  to take heed and to do our work well because the Good Lord sees everything ».
Concerned by the decrease in faith, she said : « Faith is becoming so tiny that it could be contained in a thimble (for sowing) ».

Confidence in prayer

She complained one day : « If I had prayed more, everything would have been better ».
To a discouraged person « Act like I do, pray your rosary and all will be well. »
If her wish was not granted, she said : « God has not allowed it, he sees things differently from us », or also : « I will receive something else, if I do not receive what I am asking for ».

Love of God

She told children : « One must love the Good Lord, be wise on account of Him. »
She urged her circle of acquaintances : « one must do everything… », « put up with everything for the Good Lord », or also : « one must suffer for the love of God. ».
Like Saint Francis, she repeated : « The love of God is not understood, love is not loved ». She suffered herself from the scarcity of his love : « When one asked her for prayers (she replied) : request for me who is truly miserable, the love of God, that love which I have so much trouble to obtain ». And she implored the priests and the nuns : « What methods should one adopt to love the Good Lord better ». She added : « one must pray a lot to obtain the love of God ».
She had one passion which filled her heart « God, that was her passion ».

Do the will of God

She was very timid. When she spoke, one could sense that her entire thought was for the Good Lord, as if He spoke to her all the time. She was always saying that everything was for Him, that all was in accordance with his Will ». « It is right to do God’s Will » she said.
In her ordeals, she always reverted to faith : « it is God who has allowed it ». When one pitied her for the abuse she received, she said : « It is the Good Lord who wishes that. One must accept it ». Besides, Jesus « suffered more than me », he « wants that in order to make me atone for my sins. If there was nobody to thwart me, one would have to pay somebody to do it ».

Humility

When one praised her, she screamed : « You are mistaken, I am only a poor sinner ». And when some people criticised her, she murmured : « they know me well ».

Charity towards one’s neighbour

She encouraged the sick and the dying : « The goodness of God is limitless, one must never doubt his mercy. »
She loved the poor : « The poor are the preferred friends of Our Lord »

On Calvary with Mary and Jesus

She said frequently « One must console Our Lady for her sufferings in the passion »
« Honour greatly Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows ; you will never be able to understand what she suffered for us ».
In the prayer which she composed herself she begged : « O Holy Victim, pull me after you, we shall walk together. Let me accomplish in my flesh what is missing in your sufferings… it is in the wound of your Sacred Heart that I wish to draw my last breath”.

Love

« She was a true daughter of the Church ». She prayed for the liberation of Pius IX : « My God, Rescue our beloved Pontiff ». « She simply believed in the mysteries because the Church taught them ».
« She made the mass the height of her day ».
She defended the clergy : « Priests are the representatives of God close to our souls. What they say, what they do in the Church, they only say and do them with the intention to do us good, and it is not at all up to us to criticise them or to find fault with their acts ».
